COURSE DESCRIPTION: Police Department relationships with the communities being served is a current high priority topic of national concern. Building good relationships and trust in the community is imperative for any police department and its officers. These relationships can be critically important in times of heightened tensions due to crisis situations, as well as in developing effective two-way communication with citizens of the various communities in conducting routine police activities.  Insights in developing citizen participation and effective law enforcement strategies to build citizen trust and dialog will be presented. This course is designed for all certified law enforcement officers.

INSTRUCTION BIO: Chief Anthony W. Williams.
Mr. Anthony W. Williams retired from the Dallas Police Department after 30-years of service.  As a commander, he held leadership positions in the Interactive Community Policing Unit, Police Media Unit, Office of the Chief of Police, Helicopter Unit, Communications Division, and the Central Business District.  He recently retired from the Chief of Police position for Southern Arkansas University.  Williams holds a Master's Degree in Educational Administration and the Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management.  He is a former college professor and attended several police management schools that included Southwestern Law Enforcement Institute, The Institute for Law Enforcement Administration, The Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute, and the Rural Executives Management Institute. He is a frequent guest lecturer and father of Airman Anthony W. Williams II, USAF.

TARGET AUDIENCE:  All levels of law enforcement officers.
