Crime Scene Courtroom Testimony

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This two day course is designed specifically for the crime scene investigator who is frequently required to testify to their observations and actions at a crime scene as well as subsequent interpretations of their findings. This course will provide suggested guidelines in testifying as an expert witness in crime scene investigation.  In addition to lecture, students may be required to participate in a mock court trial.  The knowledge gained through this experience will be applicable to future court testimonies.

INSTRUCTOR:  David Sachar, John Hout, and Hugh Finkelstein.
David Sachar is the Executive Director of the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission.  Mr. Sachar earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas, at Little Rock in 1994.  He has tried over 100 jury trials and thousands of hearings and bench trials.

John Hout is a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the 6th Judicial District of Arkansas, Pulaski County.  He is currently the Division Chief over the Gang Unit and Major Crimes Prosecutor.  Mr. Hout has prosecuted well over 100 jury trials, more than one third of which have been homicide trials.

Hugh Finkelstein is a Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the 20th Judicial Prosecuting Attorney's Office in Conway.  He is responsible for supervising all criminal cases filed in the 20th Judicial District.  Previously, for 19 years, Mr. Finkelstein served as a Division Chief in the 6th Judicial District in Pulaski County.
