COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will review major case investigation and crime scene preservation. A comprehensive view of homicide investigations will start at the initial report of the crime to the do’s and don’ts of crime scene investigation and to how to handle the media. Other topics will include: Signs to Look For to Help Coroners Determine the Possible Type of Death; the Role of the Investigator; Three Levels in an Investigation: Initial Investigation, Follow-up Investigation, and the Prosecution Phase; and Locating and Identifying Additional Crime Scenes. This course is designed for all certified law enforcement officers.
INSTRUCTION BIO: Mark Hollingsworth
Lieutenant Mark Hollingsworth is a Company Commander with the Arkansas State Police (ASP) and currently supervises two (2) sergeants and fourteen (14) special agents assigned to Company “E” of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). Lieutenant Hollingsworth was commissioned as a Trooper with the ASP in 1985 and has worked as a Highway Patrol Trooper, Highway Patrol Sergeant, CID Special Agent, CID Sergeant and SWAT supervisor. Prior to joining the ranks of the ASP, he was a deputy sheriff with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department from 1982-1985.
Lieutenant Hollingsworth has completed the Crime Scene Technician Certificate course and the School of Law Enforcement Supervision (SLES) at the Criminal Justice Institute and has an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement from UALR. He is a certified law enforcement instructor and holds a Senior certificate through the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST). He has received several official commendations related to his criminal case work and has also received the ASP Trooper’s Cross, Lifesaving and Trooper of the Year awards. Lieutenant Hollingsworth is married and has two adult daughters and a grandson.
