Advanced Traffic Collision Investigation

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This 40 hour course will give participants a working knowledge of what evidence and information is needed when arriving at the scene of a traffic crash, and how to safely obtain the needed information without further endangering the safety of themselves or victims. How to transfer evidence and information from traffic crash scenes to reports and diagrams will be covered. Additionally, participants will learn advanced skills in conducting accident investigations that aid in determining contributing factors that lead to the injury or fatality, how to develop a course of action to prevent future problems, and learn the importance of conducting a thorough investigation that will, if necessary, stand up in court. This course is designed for all certified law enforcement officers.

• Class hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
INSTRUCTOR: Ralph Breshears is a Vehicular Homicide Investigator/Crisis Negotiator for the Little Rock Police Department. Mr. Breshears' experience includes a variety of law enforcement roles, from fugitive apprehension officer, to narcotics detective, to field training officer, among others. Mr. Breshears has attended training courses at the U of A, Texas A&M, UNF, Bosch/Collision Safety Institute and other law enforcement training institutions where he has completed numerous education hours for Basic Collision, Advanced Collision Investigation/Reconstruction, Energy Methods and Damage Analysis in Crashes, Human Factors in Traffic Crash Reconstruction, Motorcycle Crash Investigation, Crash Data Retrieval Specialist/Analyst and Occupant Kinematics for Crash Reconstruction. Mr. Breshears is a Senior Instructor for various courses at the Little Rock Police Department Training Academy and has served as an expert witness in several cases. He has also been invited to share his expertise at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, University of Arkansas Criminal l Justice Institute, Black River College, Arkansas Supreme Court Bailiff and Court Room Security and at other important law enforcement conferences.
