Crimes Against the Elderly is Now Online

We’re starting the new year with a NEW online class—Crimes Against the Elderly Online.
As medicine and technology advance, the percentage of older individuals in the population is increasing. With more elders, the numbers of elder abuse and elder neglect cases are also increasing.
Inaccurate perceptions surrounding aging, perpetrators, and causes of elder abuse/neglect can lead to inappropriate and ineffective responses, putting victims at higher risk of harm.
Elder abuse can include physical, emotional or sexual abuse, neglect and financial exploitation.
In many cases, law enforcement officers can use tools already used in domestic violence, stalking, child abuse and sexual abuse cases to interview victims and gather evidence. Ideally, participants should have knowledge of victim issues and abuser tactics and behaviors, as well as strategies and legal remedies that can be used in family violence cases.
As a result of this training, officers will be able to identify the dynamics of elder abuse and conduct effective elder abuse investigations.
Key training points for this course include:
- Focusing on victim safety
- Being aware of and avoiding assumptions
- Recognizing abuser tactics
- Working collaboratively
