Background Investigations of Police Applicants

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Law enforcement officers strive for professionalism; however, abuses by negligent officers can cast a negative light on the entire organization. Examinations of past behavior of some officers reveal a pattern of undesirable behavior existed prior to their appointment as officers. This behavior was unknown to the hiring agency due to inadequate or nonexistent applicant screening. The integrity and ethical reputation of a police department mandates a thorough background investigation of police applicants. Participants will learn a systematic approach to background investigations that will assist in making informed hiring decisions. This course is 12 hours. The course begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m. on the first day. On the second day, the course concludes at noon.

INSTRUCTOR: Thomas Ward owns the Law Enforcement Seminars - Training and Consulting Company and partners with Harvey, Ward & Associates - Training and Consulting Company and Background Solutions - Background Investigation Software Company. He is a retired Master Peace Officer from the state of Texas.
